A few words about the recently held Assimilation Workshop conducted at Grace Lutheran Church.
Assimilation is a word that maybe we have heard but probably is seldom used by most of us. What does it mean? More importantly, what significance does it have for Grace? According to Webster's dictionary, assimilation means "to take up and incorporate into the body". The Bible tells us in Romans 12:
"Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body and each member belongs to all the others." (Rom. 12:4-5)
Since a living body is made up of many active members, it follows that we should work to encourage and incorporate all people to be an active part of the Church.
On Saturday, January 26, 2008, we held a workshop at Grace to give our members a chance to join together to discuss and learn about how we can improve our work of incorporating people into this body we have here. Pastor Witte led the workshop presentation many ideas as to what the problem is, and how we can begin to work towards a solution. Ultimately we learned that each and every person we encounter is a child of God, someone who Jesus died for on the cross. And in the Great Commission Jesus has called us to make disciples of all nations. Our work in the Church is to share this Gospel message with the world and a part of that is making them members of the body of Christ.
We are excited here at Grace to be sharing the wonderful treasures we have in God's Word and Sacraments with everyone who walks in our doors. We want to be more than just friendly with our visitors ... we want to be true friends.
